The Healthy Communities Partnership assisted in the development of the plan for a park that would achieve the vision of a space developed to optimize physical activity opportunities and connect to existing trails and destinations. In addition, special emphasis was put into making it a safe space and one that would facilitate activity for residents of all ages and abilities.
Parallel to the work that we are planning with food systems, we developed a built environment action plan for the region. Through this plan we hope to establish connectivity between destinations, enhance and increase transit options across the region, create more bicycle and walking friendly communities, and facilitate safe routes to school. To facilitate implementation, we have established a regional Built Environment Council for the Healthy Communities Partnership. In addition to these efforts the Council is partnering with the Sustainable Evansville Area Coalition and the Stellar Community group in Gibson County.
